President Donald Trump posted a campaign-style video to Truth Social late Thursday in which he declares, "Together, we will defeat communism, socialism, and Marxism in America. America will never be a communist country," continuing and sharpening an anti-communist theme he has used repeatedly since the country's 250th-anniversary celebrations in July.
The video was posted from Trump's @realDonaldTrump account at 9:19 p.m. Eastern time on Sept. 10, according to the archived record of the post .
The montage opens with a grainy black-and-white image of Trump raising a hand above a crowd, overlaid with the word "DEFEAT." It then cuts to a dark portrait of Trump with the text "AMERICA WILL NEVER BE A COMMUNIST." A later shot shows Trump with an unidentified woman before a blue-lit crowd near the Washington Monument as a voice calls him "the most resilient person" .
Trump this year has shifted from saying the United States would never be socialist to saying it would never be communist, a change he has described in his own posts and speeches. In a July 11 Truth Social post, he wrote: "I would often say in Speeches, and otherwise, America will never be a Socialist Country, and I was 100% correct, the Dumocrats skipped Socialism, and went all the way down to Communism. AMERICA WILL NEVER BE A COMMUNIST COUNTRY!" . In a July 22 speech in Marietta, Georgia, he said, "remember during the state of the Union, I said that this country will never be a socialist country, remember? And I was right. They skipped socialism. They went right to communism" .
The video's closing line — "America will never be a communist country" — matches language Trump used in America-250 speeches. The phrase had appeared in a June 24 post and a July 1 address at the Teddy Roosevelt Library . Trump used it at Mount Rushmore on July 3 , then repeated it the next day in his Independence Day address on the National Mall , where he placed it in a Cold War narrative: "after we vanquished fascism, Americans stood against the evil of communism in the Cold War" . Trump posted two separate videos on Sept. 9 — one ending on the anti-communist text, the other a montage in which a speaker says, "seems to always get stronger with challenge. My God, that guy's got resilience" . The Sept. 10 post is the first in the archive to combine the anti-communist text with the resilience theme.
The post came as Trump closed a two-night Republican midterm convention in Dallas, which he had promoted as the party's first such event JD Vance takes center stage at Republican convention as party faces midterm risks. At a Sept. 8 commemoration marking the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks , he said, "We have people that want to go a different way. They want to go a communistic way" .
The archived post did not name a producer. The archive showed no comment on the video from a named White House, campaign or Republican Party official .
