Trump threatens Iran leakers in overnight post after series of Fox clips
President Donald Trump threatened the people who leaked details of his Iran policy in a Truth Social post at 12:16 a.m. Eastern on Sept. 18, writing: "Very interesting. A must read! Keep on leaking you dirty dogs! When we find you, you will pay a big price!!!" Donald J. Trump: "Very interesting. A must read! Keep on leaking you dirty dogs! When we find... - Trump’s Truth
The post, an original message from his @realDonaldTrump account with one image attached, linked to a Washington Post opinion column dated Aug. 27 — three weeks before he shared it — headlined "What the disloyal leaks about Iran prove about Trump." Donald J. Trump: "Very interesting. A must read! Keep on leaking you dirty dogs! When we find... - Trump’s Truth
Written by Marc A. Thiessen, a Post columnist and Fox News contributor, the column criticized "MAGA disloyalists" for "self-serving leaks" about warnings Trump received before he ordered strikes on Iran, including from Tulsi Gabbard, Vice President JD Vance and military leaders. No public response from the White House, FBI or Defense Department had been issued as of publication. The FBI is already investigating a separate Iran-related leak: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in June 2025, "Of course, we're doing a leak investigation with the FBI right now," referring to leaked internal battle-damage assessments of the strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. The post followed a series of Fox News-related posts. Between 10:13 and 10:22 p.m. Eastern on Sept. 17, Trump posted five Fox or Hannity-related clips. They included Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson on alleged California homelessness fraud Establishing the Task Force to Eliminate Fraud; Sean Hannity on the economy ; border czar Tom Homan on crime and border crossings ; and Newt Gingrich and Victor Davis Hanson on the 2026 midterms.
Several claims in the clips require context. Hannity's claim that poverty is at a record low matches Census Bureau data, which put the 2025 rate at 10.2%, the lowest recorded. His GDP claim cited an Atlanta Fed projection, not an actual reported figure. Homan's claims of 15 million border crossings under Biden and 200,000 a month do not match official Customs and Border Protection figures.
The posts came while Trump was in the United Kingdom for a state visit. His public schedule listed no overnight events. Donald Trump's Late-Night Posting Spree Turns Into Spectacle Once Again
Trump has used this language before. In February 2017 he said of intelligence leaks: "We're going to find the leakers. We're going to find the leakers. They're going to pay a big price for leaking." In August 2026 he wrote that leakers of munitions information "are being hunted down."
